Air – Sonic Armada (A Trip to the Moon)

The record is a soundtrack for the 1902 silent film of the same name, which was directed by the legendary French filmmaker Georges Méliès
The silent film has been discovered in 1993, the coloured print was restored and premiered this year at the Cannes Film Festival in France, with Air’s soundtrack.
“Sonic Armada” is a jaunty instrumental full of twists of old analog synth sounds, somewhat reminiscent of the kind of experiments Jean-Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley were conducting back in the mid to late 1960s. This bodes well for the Air album, it sounds like the duo is in a playful mood, which fits perfectly with the feel of Méliès’s feature.
