Duran Duran – Girl Panic!

[wide]http://vimeo.com/31925713[/wide] “Girl Panic!” is just one song on an album tailor-made to harken back to an era when Duran Duran mattered most: The ‘80s! All You Need is Now, produced by Mark Ronson, was a deliberately crafted time capsule, one which blended the Duran Duran of 2010/2011 with the sounds of 1981/1982.
It’s splashy and sugary and, thanks to a rash of terrific songs and terrifically energized performances, it works from start to finish but where was the video?

Duran Duran finally released the music video, ‘Girl Panic’!
In the ‘80s and ’90s, the best way to get attention for your music video was to cast a supermodel. Duran Duran did it once again!
The band asked the ’80s/’90s supermodels Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, and Eva Herzigova to act like members of Duran Duran, in a nine-minute music video. The video itself was directed by Jonas Akerlund, who directed Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video. The models do interviews and photo shoots as Duran Duran, surrounded by decadence and couture. It was filmed in The Savoy in London and has a prominent product placement deal with Swarovski crystals. Duran Duran play like bell boys and waitstaff. Apparently Dolce and Gabanna are in there, as the Harper’s editors.

It wasn’t easy reuniting the supermodels for the video, the band said. Duran Duran frontman Simon LeBon told Sky News that Crawford was the first to say yes, but they feared Campbell, known for her attitude, would be difficult.

“Naomi was a little late arriving and as soon as she arrived she had to be taken away to her own room and we thought, hmmm, is this going to be one of those Naomi days?” said bassist John Taylor. “But I have to say she walked out there and she nailed it – and you just go ‘superstar’ – that’s what she is.”

“Girl Panic” isn’t the first time that Duran Duran cast models in its videos. “Notorious” starred Christy Turlington, and “A View to Kill” had an appearance from Grace Jones. But the casting of so many models in one video is a reference to one of the band’s contemporaries — George Michael, whose “Freedom ’90” enlisted five supermodels to lip-synch to his song, in one of the most memorable music videos of its time.

It’s been 30 years since Duran Duran’s first release. Duran Duran is back with “Girl Panic”. This song is like an ear worm, catchy and clever.
We love it and we are going totally crazy over the video.
