In September the fifth season of Downton Abbey starts airing in the UK and the rest of Europe follows suit at about the same time. In the US they have to wait until the beginning of 2015.
This saga of the upstairs-downstairs traditions of an English stately home in the beginning of the 20th century has enthralled the western world. For four seasons we have followed the trials and tribulations of the Crawley family and their servants. Julian Fellowes has weaved an intricate and compelling story that has touched so many viewers, and it has come to life with the first rate acting of Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and finally Dame Maggie Smith.
It is a bit fascinating that a story set approximately a century before our own time has become such a success but it just goes to show that a good story will capture us no matter in what time it is played out. We also get spectacular surroundings and beautiful clothes, and all in a society where people more had their set place instead of this more confusing world we live in today.
The teasers from the production promises drama and secrets revealed. Will Lady Mary Crawley choose her new husband and is there any hope of happiness for the gay second butler Thomas?
