The 6 Articles…

Luxurious & daring,
Elegant & subversive,
Honest & mysterious.

This sounds like a poem and these are all the sensations that ETAT LIBRE D’ORANGE (cited E.L.O throughout), an alternative perfume House, glows in high voltage.
E.L.O is the freedom action field, the non-conformist scent within our nostrils and the future of perfume philosophy.
The behind the scenes man is Etienne de Swardt, whose «lethal weapon» of choice is the scent. Seven years & seven fragrances at Givenchy and one perfume for the man’s best friend: Oh My Dog!
Then comes the age of no innocence when scenting the fantasies more than applying marketing concepts is compulsory logic…
At least three star «noses» from Givaudan and Mane asscociate with de Swardt for the purposes of olfactory freedom.
E.L.O has a chart and these are important excerpts:

Art.1: «…recognizes as its sole sovereign the insubordination and olfactory eroticism..»
Art.2: «… appeals to all those willing to express singularity…»
Art.3: «… claims the rarity of the materials used…»
Art.4: «… prohibits any esthetic snobbery around its bottles and claims sobriety…»
Art.5: «… is about liberated themes and not about shocking but provoking the senses…»
Art.6: «… is a desire explosion incentive like all these places devoted to…»

Here are four of the twenty & something fragrances that E.L.O created.
Step inside & stay…

«Je suis un homme»
Napoleon would spray himself with it before going to combat; «Je suis un Homme» (I am a man) is a reinterpretation of Cologne accords dear to his heart. Citrus and bergamot top notes to summon up the guard and prepare to storm an attack somewhere in between a Corsican scrub – on a myrtle note – and a retreat from Russia. Birch wood and cognac evoke the smell of saddle leather, boots and belts. The charge will be hasty and imperial… in a rough and ready way. Energetic and clearly manly, «Je suis un Homme» suits men who assert themselves.

«Don’t get me wrong baby, I don’t…»
It all starts with a hand on the nape of a neck. The hand of a man familiar with the practice of attracting others, accustomed to crumpling their sleek hair and to getting the better of their well- behaved manners. This is the story of a man in a car at night, of a manly hand that draws a perfect face towards him – expressed at the start by a bouquet of white flowers: lily of the valley, jasmine and orange blossom – and who anticipates the chocolaty taste and tenderness of a mouth. It is also the story of a man who at first resists…. The art of the “American kiss” unfurls on accords of ambre solaire, almond, sugar cane and marshmallow. The appetizer ends in a whisper: “Don’t get me wrong baby, I don’t…”.

«Secretions Magnifiques»
Like blood, sweat, saliva, «Sécrétions Magnifiques» (magnificent secretions) is as real as an olfactory coitus that sends one into rapture, to the pinnacle of sensual pleasure, that extraordinary and unique moment when desire triumphs over reason. Masculine tenseness frees a rush of adrenalin in a cascade of high-pitched aldehydic notes. The sensation of freshness is gripping. Then the fragrance reveals a metallic side, precise and as sharp as unappeased desire. We are on a razor-edge… skin and sweat mingle, and taste of musk and sandalwood. The slightly salty marine effect stirs, arouses, and sets your mouth watering. Pleasure explodes and all goes wild. Confusion reigns supreme. A subversive, disturbing perfume. It’s love or hate at first sight.

«Tom of Finland»
The water slips over him as if sliding down a marble rock, sinking into the grooves of his muscles, vanishing into his pores. This is fresh, pure water, with top notes of aldehydes and lemon, a water that washes away the sins of the night and leaves the skin luminous. Tom of Finland feels clean, like a shaving from a cake of soap. It is an ode to the beauty of the male body and to the radiance of the natural self. For this man, clothing becomes a jewel-case that serves to reveal the true erotic power of the flesh. Tom of Finland is a breath of fresh air, offering unrestricted access to the immense outdoors, the depths of the forest, with notes of birch leaves, cypress, galbanum and pine at its heart. Straight, gay… these words are irrelevant here. Tom of Finland is beyond sexuality. Fantasy clings to him like his leather jacket, with suede, musk, and amber gray in the base notes. His belt is fastened with an accord of pepper and spicy-fresh saffron, tangled with a blond suede sensuality on a vanilla bed of tonka bean and iris. This is a man who wants to play, to love, to die and be reborn, again and again. Tom of Finland is a tribute to tomorrow’s glorious possibilities.

Is it risky business to provoke the scents & being elitist? Yes, but this is more about not going with the flow and discovering your seduction tool.
E.L.O appeals to all those willing to experiment a state of independence.

The metaphor is the 69 rue des Archives address in Paris where the HQ are located, in the crossroad of what is exciting & notorious.
