What to watch: It’s A Sin – lads living it large in London

Russell T Davies – the creator of Queer as Folk – is back with a new series.

Set in the 1980s, It’s A Sin stars Olly Alexander, and gives us the story of a group of young gay guys living in London.

Olly plays Ritchie Torez, an 18-year-old queer guy hiding his sexuality from his family. Lydia West, Omari Douglas, and Callum Scott Howells play his circle of friends. The series will also star Neil Patrick Harris.

While Olly is best known as the singer of Years & Years, he’s been acting since 2008 and has continued to pursue acting projects alongside performing with Years & Years.

“It’s the kind of story that you think has been told, but then you realise it hasn’t been told in Britain…” said Davies, speaking about the development of the series.

Writing in the Guardian, Davies has shared a personal reflection of why he’s put HIV front and centre in this series, and why he hasn’t done it before – it’s worth a read.

It’s A Sin will be released on 22 January
